Letter from the
CEO
Dear
Valued Customers and Partners:
Welcome
to the first issue of the MasterLink eConsultant
quarterly enewsletter. Our hope is that this
tool will enable us to better communicate
initiatives and changes taking place within our
organization. We will also share with you any
insight our experts can provide on industry and
technology trends.
Our
consulting services continue to expand as
customer needs change; clients have demonstrated
a strong demand for assistance with information
risk management. In this issue you will read
various articles relating to risk and security,
and questions you may wish to consider as they
relate to your own business. We also hope that
you will be able to join us on February 27 for
our conference Information Risk Management: From
the Boardroom to the Techroom. Details and
registration information are available within
this newsletter and on our website at
www.emasterlink.com.
Although
our services will continue to evolve as new
challenges emerge, please be assured that there
is one thing at MasterLink that will never
change: our focus on our clients and our
commitment to quality. To that end, if you have
any comments or suggestions about the
enewsletter or MasterLink itself, please forward
them to
econsultant@emasterlink.com.
Here’s
to a great 2008 for all of us!
Sincerely,
Dave Becker

Business Impact Analysis
by
Maggie Knight, Director – Business
Infrastructure and BCP/DR Services
|
A
business impact analysis (BIA) is a process
utilized by companies to identify the
effect of external and internal impacts
upon the business functions within your
organization. This process will help to
establish which business functions are
the most critical to your company’s
survival in the event of a failure or business
disruption. It is only by identifying and
understanding risk and impact of various
scenarios to your business that you will get a
full picture of your vulnerabilities. This in
turn will allow you to focus your technology and
business planning and spending. |

Business Continuity and
Disaster Recovery
Planning
by
Virginia Kramer, Director of Unified
Communications and Operations Services
 |
Each
year our IT infrastructures become increasingly
critical to the daily operations of an
organization. Failure of a single component or
catastrophic scenarios can be crippling, and if
there are no contingency plans, they can destroy
the business beyond repair.
We do
not like to dwell on the negative and oftentimes
feel it is a waste of time to plan for
disasters, but a disaster can be something we
would not necessarily think of as a
“catastrophe.” A disruption in business
service could be caused by an equipment failure
on a |
server
that supports a critical business application,
or a breakdown in a critical
communication process. Creating a Business
Continuity (BC) and/or Disaster Recovery (DR)
plan prepares a company with a process for
keeping the organization operational after a
disruptive event until normal facilities are
restored. |

Virtual CTO/CIO
Services
Does my technology fit my
business needs? Should I buy or lease? What
should I be budgeting for IT expenditures? How
do I grow my business technology? Do I have the
right IT process in place to improve
profitability and productivity?

These are all questions that would normally be
deferred to your Chief Information Officer (CIO)
or Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Many
companies today have the need for this strategic
and analytical experience but cannot justify the
cost in their business environment today.
MasterLink’s Virtual CIO/CTO service offering
pairs qualified business consultants with our
clients to help them in the business planning,
budgeting and life cycle management of their IT
Business environments.
